Cornell is known for its treacherous winters, but that only means a greater appreciation for Spring’s impending arrival. There are so many reasons I adore spring, and it has always been my favorite season. The flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping, and I can finally sit outside in the sun. Here at Slope, we’ve compiled some of our favorite things about Spring:
1) Ice cream
The best part of the weather warming up. Whether it’s heavenly goodness from the Cornell Dairy Bar or a scoop from your favorite shop at home, ice cream on a cone is essential to enjoying Spring.
After a winter full of clouds, snow, and dreary skies, we’re all about ready to pull out our trendy shades.
As a city girl, I’m not used to seeing grass everywhere, but sitting on the lawn of the Arts Quad with friends always puts a smile on my face and reminds me of Central Park back home.
Blue skies and sunny days mean cute floral dresses. Now getting ready in the morning will no longer take ages because you can just slip on a sundress and walk right out the door.
5) Spring break
Whether you’re catching up on sleep at home, walking on the beach at sunset, or visiting other wonderful sights, Spring Break is a much-needed reprieve for any Cornell student.
6) Frisbee on the Arts Quad
Run around with some friends under the sun! Enjoy the fact that you no longer need a puffy coat!
7) Swimming in the gorges
Okay, it might not be that warm – but it’s getting close. Just remember: Spring means we are just one season away from Summer.
8) Cherry blossoms
They’re pretty, they smell good, and they’ll always make for a beautiful (and well-liked) Instagram.
9) Lunch outside
Get your lunch to-go from Ivy Room, sit at the top of the slope, and take in our beautiful campus.
10) No more snow
Sure, it has its moments – but the snow lengthens our walks to class by more than a couple of minutes. So this Spring, enjoy the beautiful weather and appreciate how great Cornell looks in the sun.
