Artist on the Rise

Metric

Sounds Like: Stars, Muse, Broken Social Scene, My Favorite Band

Metric has been around for awhile, so technically I’m lying when I say that they are an Artist on the Rise. However, I continually want them to be more appreciated than they are, so maybe this column will help. Emily Haines fronts the band with her beautifully soft voice and painfully real lyrics. I know that sentence was corny but when you hear someone singing “Wishing you could keep me closer, I’m a lazy dancer, when you move I move with you,” “painfully real” is something that comes to mind.

Metric will be releasing their 5th studio album, Synthetica this June. Any fan of the band can tell you that they have literally never failed. Metric manages to effortlessly go from heartbreaking slow ballads to some bad ass guitar solos by their amazing guitarist.

By the way, the voice that sings “Anthem for A Seventeen Year Old Girl”, one of Broken Social Scene’s most famous songs, is Emily Haines. Yes, I also imagine her singing me to sleep.
