Attached is the post-game audio containing Cornell Men’s Basketball Coach, Bill Coutney’s thoughts on the annual Red-White scrimmage leading up to the 2010-2011 season. Take a listen in a hear what Coach C had to say.
Slope TV Take-Aways from Game
1. Max Groebe and Errick Peck stole the show. Groebe showed his ability to be a lights out shooter with a quick trigger who can hit from anywhere on the court. Groebe duplicated if not surpassed his performance from the Red-White game 2 years ago, however, now with Ryan Wittman, Louis Dale, Geoff Reeves, and co. gone, Groebe will now have the opportunity to make an immediate impact on this team. The second half was the Errick Peck show. Peck is starting to become the player everyone thinks he can be. Peck showed his versatility and his ability to get to the basket at will. Coast-to-coast, off the dribble…it didn’t matter, Peck just got it done. With Cornell searching for scoring options, I think this can really be a breakout season for Peck and I am really excited to see him mature throughout it.
2. Big men’s ability to step away from the basket. We saw a lot of this last year with Jon Jaques playing the 4. Looks like it’s going to continue this season. The Bigs, for the most part, looked comfortable handling the ball three-point line extended and Adam Wire, Josh Figini, and Dwight Tarwater all connected from long range in this one. Mark Coury and Anthony Gatlin also showed a mid-range game. Would have liked to see some of the bigs playing more with their back to the basket, but I guess I will hold my judgement there until I see Aaron Osgood in uniform.
3. I thought Jake Matthews played a very nice game. He made up for his lack of size with toughness, especially on the defensive end. Miles Asafo-Adjei never looked completely comfortable at the point guard position and that is not a knock on Miles, but more a testimony to the suffocating defense that Matthews played.
