You can still slurp it down while doing other activities, like reading the Farmer’s Almanac or watching the tractor-tipping scene in “Cars.” I bet you are sitting there on your wooden rocking chair straight from the mail-order blubbering like a big baby in overalls. What are you going to entertain your cows with? The radio? Your own singing that’s not even fit for the shower? Your brother’s? Here’s a thought- how ’bout reruns of FPC? Alas, this is goodbye, but not forever. Thanks for being such a great audience for the first semester. Listen next year as the cows get even fatter, produce even creamier milk, and continue to predict when it will rain. Now show me your best bottom-toothed smile.

Now, the turkeys will turn heads, and the farmers will give one more last ditch effort to fatten them to perfection. Actually, it’s probably too late as they are already shipped, chopped, frozen, and traveling to your nearest grocery store unless you are into local food and on the day of, travel to the farm and get a bird straight off the chopping block. Every Thanksgiving, I watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Maybe someday they will get the idea of having a cow parade. Think of all the mooing and distractions. Anyway, pandemonium would likely ensue. Maybe it would be easier to stay at home, kick up those boots and listen to this week’s installment of FPC. Enjoy!

Is your yellow cheese hat squished onto your head of golden braids that dangle down your red plaid shirt which is tucked into your blue jeans held up by your golden belt buckle that make your legs looked sexy tucked into your brown leather cowboy boots caked with dirt from your corn field? If you answered yes, then by golly, you sound ready for the next episode of FPC! If you ever feel lonely listening to these songs, then just take your laptop out to your cow barn and play these hay-rollin’ tunes to your herd. The rumor is that heifers, bulls, and cows all enjoy these tunes and even express their moo’s of approval (or maybe that was because they got an extra serving of oats, corn, and grass). Anyway, the rate of milk production increased by twenty gallons for the Holsteins, so I’m just giving you an idea… Here we go. Also, note that due to technical difficulties, the show only ran for 30 minutes this week.

Hello. I don’t mean to begin on a somber note, but this week’s show is dedicated to my Grandma who passed away the Sunday before this broadcast. She was a true farm girl, growing up with four siblings (if I remember correctly) on a farm in Wisconsin during the Depression. I interviewed her in eighth grade about her experiences, and luckily, have them down on paper. At this point, they escape my memory, but I can still recall her in a black-and-white photograph standing beside an old truck with wooden railings in front of her farmhouse. She was a tough and hardy farm girl even during the later years of her life. It seemed like she could survive through every medical issue, but not this time. So this week, we send her off to be reunited with Ma and Pa with calming songs by Michelle Branch and the Goo-Goo Dolls.

Good Evening, fellow Cow aficiondos! I know what you’re thinking- you’ve never heard that mantra about 5 glasses before. Well, I will explain. You eat three square meals a day which obviously includes a full glass of milk (we don’t discriminate- as long as you’re supporting our cows, we’re happy but we strongly urge 1% for the creamy-but-not-too-heavy flavor). Then you will probably get hungry mid-morning, eat a snack and drink a glass of milk. Then, come 3 o’clock, you will get hungry again, and this will lead to a trip to the frig and another glass of milk consumed. And voila! Five glasses a day. Not too hard, right? If you’re feeling really gutsy and for all you overachievers out there, a sixth glass can be consumed before bedtime to calm your nerves. Who needs camomile tea- water with the flavor of leaves- when you can enjoy a bone-fortifying, creamy textured drink called M.I.L.K.?

While you’re contemplating that, you can listen to this week’s broadcast of tunes. Also, I just realized I messed up the mike. Oops.

When you’re not studying for heat & mass transfer prelims, you’re doing problem sets about a shell-and-8-tube pass heat exchanger forcing you to stay at Olin Library until 2 AM or doing the thermodynamics questions about fugacity which guest Professor Tester introduced two weeks ago in a dry-as-dry-mud lecture that Prof Hanrath completely ignored until yesterday… Sounds like another week to pull out the comfy plaid shirt and make myself not one, but two HUGE frozen purple cows to cheer me up, and don’t forget the added shots of caffeine. Boy, ya gotta love college. By the way, the recording computer wasn’t working correctly, so no tangible record of this broadcast was made. Sucks because I played some good tunes. Maybe they will make an appearance when I play Kool Kat’s Ultimate Playlist at the end of the semester…

This week, you can listen to an exciting list featuring many artists singing tunes from a gamut of 12 different genres. Impressive, huh? hahaha. Actually, I chose to dedicate my entire show to that one country/pop-croonin’ blonde chick who wears her heart on her sleeve, Taylor Swift. Had you going for a minute there, didn’t I? No one can deny that she exploded onto the music scene like when your little brother inflated that blue helium birthday balloon too much and blamed it on you and no one can deny that she has musical-writing ability as solid as that stainless steel three-point drawbar hitch. Although her voice might seem as weak live as a newborn baby calf, her albums are a thing of leather, something cool to the touch and probably be kept forever. Well enough of the crazy comparisons, let’s get on with the playlist.

Lopez joined us on the show twice in the spring, and is a senior at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Lopez is a correspondent for the Ventura County Star, and covers high schools athletics in Ventura County, Calif. Tonight on the show we discussed the Rangers and Cardinals’ run to the 2011 World Series, along with the status of the Los Angeles Dodgers, now that the McCourt’s have finally settled their bitter divorce fiasco. I also discuss my picks from this week in the NFL, as well as recap key games in college football over the weekend. Be sure to follow Tim’s Take on Sports on twitter at sloperadiotake.

Yo. This week’s theme was songs that included numbers in the song, in its title or in the band’s name. Since I was knee-deep in the 1st round of muddy prelims, numbers were constantly on my mind like all the rain we were getting in Ithaca which was ruining my chances of taking out the combine and harvesting my soybeans. Anything above a 15% humidity rate makes them incapable of being properly harvested. Without that snap, they’re no good. As it was there was a 97.8% chance of rain and a 67.4% chance that I was going to ace my prelim (stay positive) with my #2 corn-yellow pencil. I would have to labor through a 2.5 hour thermo prelim covering 4 pages of intense differential equations… I think I played 14 songs this week (not in the listed order). Go figure. Don’t forget to drink that 15 oz. shake and don’t run out of grape juice.

1. Semi-charmed Life, 3rd Eye Blind

4. Don’t Trust Me, 3 oh! 3

6. 65 Mustang, 5 for Fighting

7. Sk8ter Boi, Avril Lavigne

Welcome to the second episode! I’m still working out the kinks of dj’ng and ran into a whole new set of technical difficulties this week resulting in creating a new playlist on the fly but hey, at least I figured out how to successfully upload last week’s content! Although you might only want a small milkshake this week before you move onto bigger and better things, you should still whip up a frozen purple cow. I mean what else do you really have to do? Calculate the efficiency of that Rankine cycle? Thermodynamics can wait- your next prelim isn’t for another three weeks…

Playlist:

Adele, Rolling in the Deep

Adele, Rumor Has It

Aerosmith, I don’t Want to Miss a Thing

<itunes:summary>Welcome to the second episode! I'm still working out the kinks of dj'ng and ran into a whole new set of technical difficulties this week resulting in creating a new playlist on the fly but hey, at least I figured out how to successfully upload last week's content! Although you might only want a small milkshake this week before you move onto bigger and better things, you should still whip up a frozen purple cow. I mean what else do you really have to do? Calculate the efficiency of that Rankine cycle? Thermodynamics can wait- your next prelim isn't for another three weeks...

The third segment of Tim’s Take on Sports aired Sept. 27. Colleague and Buffalo native Eli Bannister joined us again in the studio, a promise I fulfilled if the Buffalo Bills beat the Patriots on Sunday. We talked about the Buffalo Bills 3-0 start, along with the Detroit Lions surprising start and Eagles’ quarterback Michael Vick’s latest injury. Unfortunately, due to time constraints from an extended practice, Cornell University men’s ice hockey player Nick D’Agostino was unable to make it to the studio. But we plan to have him on the show next month! So be sure to look for updates. Also discussed the recent NBA Player’s Union letter to players and how they stand on the owner’s push for a hard salary cap, along with last weekend’s college football games.

Hey Guys,

My name is Tommy Gautier, I’m a Freshman in A&S, and I’m from LA. In fact, I love LA so much its creepy. But at the same time, I’m enjoying New York, and I can’t wait to start going into the City. So, I decided I’d make a show about these two amazing cities and the awesome music coming out of them. Admittedly, I’m a little biased towards LA, but I’m trying to get to know some of the mainstream and local bands form around here. I would even love you forever if you introduced me to some, so please feel free to comment/email me.

ANYWAY you’re probably thinking “why should I listen to this guy, he sounds like such a loser…” Well if that’s you, you’re probably right. Anyway, the reason I’m doing this: I had my own DJ schwanky gig in LA for 3 years, which I sold off when I left, and now I realize I miss it more and more. So this is kind of a way for me to get my fix. So if you listen I hope you’ll find some new music you like, or simply enjoy the songs you already know, or realize you’re some kind of hipster musical genius because you’ve heard every song I play. Whatever floats your boat.

Thanks to those who tuned into the first show. I ran into a few technical problems in the studio (yeah, it looks like I was the first to go on this year nbd), so there isn’t a recording for this week. BUT there will be next week. Probably.

Anyway, lesson learned right? Tune into my show when it’s on if you want to be part of the cool crowd (all 9 of us).

BUT for those of you who missed it, here’s the track list in the order it was SUPPOSED to be in:

Does This Mean You’re Moving On? – The Airborne Toxic Event

Snakecharmer – Rage Against the Machine

Party and Bullshit (Ratatat remix) – Notorious B.I.G.

3′s and 7′s – Queens of the Stone Age

Monk – Mini Mansions

Suck My Kiss	-	Red Hot Chili Peppers	Blood

Obstacle 1	-	Interpol

Through It All	-	Leftover Cuties

We Used To Vacation – Cold War Kids

I Aint Tha 1	-	N.W.A.

From the Ritz to the Rubble	-	Arctic Monkeys

Martini	-	Incubus

Short Skirt/Long Jacket	-	Cake

Do You Remember – Jack Johnson

Preachin’ The Blues	- Los Duggans

Throw It On Me (The Bloody Beetroots Remix)	-	Timbaland

****

So some of you are probably like “wtf man, Arctic Monkeys are definitely not from LA, NY, or anywhere in between! What a n0Ob..” Well, you’re right, congrats. I try and relate most of these back to LA or NY, but some of it I just can’t resist. If you don’t like the Arctic Monkeys, you’ll most likely hate my show since they’ve been one of my favorite bands for 7 years, but I’ll try and resist playing them EVERY show.

****

Next week I’m going to a) make sure the studio isn’t broken, b) play a lot of music you’ve heard, but might not have attributed to LA. I’m really struggling with the NY side right now, so if any NYC hipsters want to help me out, it would be appreciated….

***

Anyway, tune in next week. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it, and my parents say if I don’t get 20 listeners they’ll torch my room. So help me out. The next show is Monday, 9/19/11 @8pm EST on www.sloperadio.com

-Tommy

The seventh segment of Tim’s Take on Sports aired on April 19 and featured a reprise role from former colleague David Lopez. We discussed the opening games of the 2011 NBA playoffs, breaking down the results and discussing the upsets that ensued over the weekend. We also talked baseball, particularly on Carl Crawford’s struggles in Boston, and the implications of teams signing marquee players to lucrative deals.

The fifth segment of Tim’s Take on Sports aired on April 5, and featured special guest David Lopez. Lopez was a former colleague of mine at Moorpark College, and we worked on the community college newspaper the Student Voice for two years. He was sports editor when I was a beat writer for sports, and was editor-in-chief when I was sports editor my sophomore year. Lopez is a junior studying Digital Communications and Media/Multimedia at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif. and joined us via teleconference in a discussion involving March Madness, the college basketball coaching changes, and implications regarding the CBA and the future of the 2011 NFL season. Lopez won first place in design layout at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges in Los Angeles in April 2010, and provides expertise in the field of sports and in the industry. Also on the show, I discuss the opening weekend for major league baseball, and provide you with my favorites to win each division. Next week we will talk about the April 6 ruling on the anti-trust suit filed by the NFLPA, along with my predictions for the upcoming NBA playoffs. Please be sure to follow us on twitter at sloperadiotake and on the facebook page at Tim’s Take on Sports: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tims-Take-on-Sports/123920131002080.

Tim’s Take on Sports had the opportunity to sit down with her and talk with her about her experiences playing for the Canadian National Team in the 2010 Winter Olympics, how the women’s hockey program has matriculated over the course of her career at Cornell, and about the team’s second consecutive Frozen Four berth.
