Big Red Talk got a chance to sit down with Cornell men’s soccer coach Jaro Zawislan. After taking over a team that finished 1-15 in 2008, Zawislan has guided the Big Red to an 8-1-3 record in 2011, and the team’s first 3-0 start to Ivy League play in over 25 years. The Big Red beat Yale 2-0 Saturday to increase their lose-less streak to 11 games. The Big Red are atop the Ivy standings with five games remaining, and have not lost since losing to Niagara in their season opener Sept. 2.

Behind 23 points from Ryan Wittman and better than 55% shooting as a team from beyond the arc, Cornell won its season opener at Alabama. The win in Tuscaloosa marked the Big Red’s first victory over an SEC squad in 37 years.

Three-thousand, four-hundred and seventy five miles, 16 1/2 hours, 7 delays, 4 airports, 3 missed flights, 1 lost piece of luggage and the Slope Media coverage of Cornell Basketball in the 2009 NCAA Tournament has finally arrived in Boise. I can truthfully say that Idaho is one of the few states I never thought I would go to, but this big state out west where the grass is blue and the potatoes are plentiful plays host to 4 first round NCAA Tournament games on Friday and 2 second round games on Sunday (Cornell and Missouri are set to tip off around 3 PM ET on Friday). On January 24, 2009 the Cornell Men’s Basketball team downed Columbia 83-72 in Newman Arena. This marked Cornell’s 15th straight home vicoty, and 7th straight victory overall. With the win, Cornell moved to 12-6 on the year and 2-0 in the Ivy League in their pursuit of another Ivy league title and a birth in the NCAA Tournament.
