American Authors is an indie-rock band from New York City that only recently came into the limelight. Although the band originally formed in 2006 while the four members studied at Berklee College of Music, they relocated to Brooklyn in 2010 and began working on their own independent projects. The band didn’t gain a significant following until the release of their track “Best Day of My Life.” Ironically “Best Day of My Life” sparked in popularity after it was featured in a TV ad for Lowe’s (yes, the home improvement store).

The bands sound is strikingly similar to Imagine Dragons. Just like Imagine Dragons, American Authors has a sound that appeals to a wide range of people, often incorporating elements of pop and folk music into their tracks. While that may seem like an odd combination, somehow it works cohesively. You’ll just have to check it out for yourself.

Of all artists I’ve reviewed, I can see American Authors becoming big more than any other. This summer American Authors will be headlining OneRepublic’s Native tour, which will likely be a big publicity explosion. Not so surprisingly, I’m sure they will appeal to the same sort of audience that has come to enjoy OneRepublic.

My two favorite tracks are “Best Day of My Life” and “Believer”, which both happen to be their most popular.
