Super Bowl Sunday is here. Still, for those of you who don’t even know what teams are playing, rest assured you have other things to get excited about. I’m talking friends, food, laughs, and even tears (who knew a Budweiser commercial could make you cry)? Though football appears to be just a silly game of men in tights violently tackling each other, all that “nonsense” changes today. This particular Sunday is a coveted day on our country’s social calendar, a day much awaited and anticipated. You must celebrate Super Bowl Sunday in the manner it deserves, so here are ten reasons that you should:

1. It is socially acceptable to stuff your face with all sorts of greasy food. From tortilla chips and nacho cheese to buffalo wings and (if you’re feeling fancy) guac  – you know for a fact that no one will be #judging because trust me, they’ll be doing the exact same thing.

yum

2. You can finally appreciate the true meaning of Sunday as the “day of rest”. Instead of dreading Sunday night’s arrival (signalling an eager Monday morning), you can actually look forward to dusk, which always makes for a less depressing day. In fact, you’ll probably be trying to contain your excitement:

3. Ever feel left out when you had absolutely no clue what the “crowd” was talking about? Like that time you were the only one who didn’t watch the “How I Met Your Mother” finale (please change that, by the way) and you didn’t get why everyone was blabbing about Ted and Robin? This time, you’ll be the first to chime in if anything embarrassing happens.

4. The commercials. If you didn’t cry at last year’s Budweiser commercial about the puppy and the horse falling in love, then we must know – do you have a heart?

We’ll give you a second chance. Watch and weep.

5. You get to secretly (or not so secretly) laugh at all of the people who are way too into the game. It’s football my friends, not life – you should probably stop yelling and get down from the table now.

6. The halftime show. Need I say more? This should be fun.

Of course, Katy Perry is no Beyonce…let’s just have a quick throwback over here:

7. I guess the football part can be pretty fun, too. I mean, super dramatic stuff apparently happens all the time during these games. Who knew?

8. Tom Brady is… decent.

9. You can impress people with all the useful knowledge you know about football and even act like you’d been following all season. Note: we know you looked up statistics, names, and other such data earlier in the afternoon when you were “resting up” for the night. Shhh, we did too.

10. You’re surrounded by friends and family – now, what else could you ask for?
