A doctor reveals the reasons why we no longer see white dog poop in our streets.

Not long ago, white dog droppings were a common sight in our streets. Today, however, these chalky little piles seem to have disappeared altogether. Have our canine friends stopped producing them? A doctor reveals what has changed over the years!

Where Do White Dog Droppings Come From?

In a TikTok video shared last February, Dr. Katrina Warren explained the origin of white dog droppings. “In the 70s and 80s, white dog droppings were very common,” she says. Now, we rarely see them on our streets!

In the past, dog diets mainly consisted of bones and table scraps. Even dog food manufacturers prioritized bone meal and calcium in their ingredients. Consequently, dogs would produce stools of a similar nature. But the process doesn’t stop there!

To achieve their whitish color, droppings must be exposed to air and sunlight. They then lose moisture and become more crumbly. After a while, feces resulting from an inadequate diet can turn into a white substance. At least, they don’t smell as bad compared to regular droppings!

The Responsibility of Owners!

Since the early 80s, municipalities in France have begun to combat dog waste, aiming for cleaner and healthier streets. A decade later, authorities intensified the campaign against dog droppings!

Throughout the city, we see posters and waste bags to assist pet owners. In 2002, France finally adopted a law requiring owners to pick up their dog’s waste. Under the Penal Code, those who still disregard this rule risk a fine of 135 euros!

Dog Walking

Today, pet lovers see walks with their dogs as an enjoyable activity. However, before heading out, they need to be equipped with supplies to clean up after their pets. This is why we no longer see so many white droppings in our streets!

According to Dr. Warren, “I think there were also a lot more droppings lying around, whereas nowadays, we are more efficient at cleaning them up.”

A Renewal in Dog Nutrition!

Despite the new laws, there are still a few clever individuals who prefer to evade their responsibilities. However, even in these cases, white droppings are unlikely to appear. This is due to changes in the diets of our canine companions!

In simple terms, pet food manufacturers have discovered a formula for better balancing the nutritional intake they offer. Instead of using animal meal, they have opted for something more digestible. This is much to the benefit of our dogs’ stomachs!

Dog Kibble

Today, a dog that eats only kibble is much healthier than one whose diet consists primarily of bones. Moreover, it will produce darker feces that contain less calcium and are less prone to discoloration. This is why we will no longer see white droppings at every corner of the street!
