Slope writer Kristi Krulcik weighs in on Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s new production. Catch him at Bailey Hall (if you were lucky enough to get tickets…) on November 18!
You may have heard of Joseph Gordon-Levitt—he was the guy from “(500) Days of Summer” that every girl fell in love with, the “Robin” in the latest Batman movie, and Cornell’s upcoming entertainment. He’s got the looks, the charm… heck, he’s even got his own collaborative production company! The latest release from his project, hitRECord, is an album called Move On the Sun, featuring 15 songs created by 78 contributing artists. The optimistic title track is reminiscent of a Kindle commercial. Its summery tones, gentle vocals, and whistling accents are the perfect backdrop for a summer drive down a tree-lined street. “Wolves in the Woods” and “Diamond in the Rough” highlight raw vocals similar to those of UK songstresses, Amy Winehouse and Duffy. The last song on the album, “Why Am I So Dizzy?” has lyrics written and sung by JGL himself accented with instrumental brilliance from his collaborators. The melody is addicting, even if the lyrics are slightly ridiculous. The other songs are a mix of bluesy ballads, R&B, electronic beats, elevator music, and deep guitar tracks. This album is for anyone who enjoys a charismatic blend of diverse sounds or just wants a taste of some JGL.
