For fans of: chill music, Phalaeh, Modestep

After looking through my past entries, it occurred to me that I’ve become sort of a one trick pony, and I was either really big on these folksy and/or indie rock bands, and I thought I’d diverge from that track and share an artist that I’ve been really into and is totally different from all of that…I present to you, Bear//Face. A moniker for 19 year old UK based DJ Ciarian, I’m not entirely sure how to categorize the genre that Bear//Face produces…it’s this weird amalgamation of chillstep, R&B, hip-hop and trap, but more, if that makes any sort of sense.

His newest release, a remix of the James Blake song Voyeur is equal parts haunting and beautiful, and there’s a sense of calmness in the music produced that I really appreciate. The 7-track album that was released earlier, Beat_Tape is filled with original tracks that characterize this eclectic mixture of different genres that Bear//Face is so great at, and the album has a whole is a perfect soundtrack to a rainy day, or when you just want to relax. Also, the fact that there is a track called Jean-Ralphio (who is arguably one of the best side characters on Parks and Recreation) gives Bear//Face an extra point in my book. If you’re feeling a little experimental with your musical tastes, I’d definitely recommend listening to his remix of the Justin Timberlake classic, My Love below. With the deepened vocals and introduction of bass and drums, it’s the perfect song for when you just want to chill out and relax.
