Obsessions of the Week
Instagram- I would be lying if I told you that a mere three weeks ago I didn’t seriously judge people who used “Holga” filters to make their peanut butter and jelly sandwiches look vintage. But, one day I finally caved and made an account, and let me tell you… It might have been one of my best decisions of 2012 thus far. Instagram is the perfect guilty pleasure because I know and can control who is looking at my embarrassingly edited pictures. Since I don’t link my account with my Facebook or Twitter, only other people who are equally as guilty of instamagic see what I upload. I don’t have to worry about judgemental “i used film before it was cool” friends seeing the multiple pictures of my dog or candid selfies (ugh, I’m THAT girl) I unironically post on a weekly basis. There’s like this understood bond between all Instagram users that the usual rules of social interaction don’t really apply anymore, and it’s totally cool.

So many filters it hurts
This one uses the “edge blur” effect too, because this is obviously a very sentimental picture…
My French professor/ Language Teachers in General- Today, as I was stumbling through a sentence about how much I liked dogs in French, I realized how hilarious every class must be to language teachers. They silently watching 20-year-olds try to communicate with the language skills of 4-year-olds, completely butchering verb tenses and pronunciation. And they do it all without laughing. I give every French professor I’ve ever has so much credit for being able to feign interest in my completely mundane, over-simplified comments and for not laughing when I routinely sure the past tense instead of the present.
Turtlenecks- One of my friends is friends with a girl from France, and I’ll be the first to admit that I stalk her effortless-European-chic life on a regular basis. A recurring theme in her and all her French friends’ current clothing is the turtleneck. While I used to write them off as quintessential Mom-wear, the turtleneck has definitely grown on me. There are so many cool variations, and they look especially cool when they’re cropped and sleeveless.
American Apparel knows what’s up
Bangs- I get bored easily. Really easily. It had been too long since I had done something equally spontaneous and stupid to my hair. So, this weekend, when one of my housemates told me she was going to get her hair dyed, I decided it was due time for a change, which happened to manifest itself as bangs (and bleached ends, but that’s another story). This was risky move, as my hair has a mind of its own, and literally forms a 6 inch radius around my head if I brush it any time other than when it’s wet. But, ultimately, I’m really glad I took the chance. Bangs are great because you literally have to worry about what a third less of your face looks like. Is my ability to see drastically impaired? Maybe. But that’s a price I’m willing to pay to forever avoid SFS (a term I just made up that means Shiny Forehead Syndrome) and use 33% less foundation. Plus, I can’t help but feel like Anne Hathaway after her transformation in both The Princess Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada.(Also, on an unrelated note, has anyone else noticed that both the ambulences and the funeral home in Ithaca are run by the “Bangs” family? Talk about negative incentives.)
I may or may not have shown this exact picture to the hair dresser
Mia doesn’t even have bang here… I just love this part of the movie.

Jennifer Aniston’s Engagement- Something that confounds me on a daily basis is how everyone seems to be over the whole Brad-and-Jennifer thing. C’mon guys! Jen had her heart ripped out! She’s totally a victim and Angelina is, without a doubt, a 21st century villain. Like, I know this happened in 2005, but how have people managed to move on with their lives? For that reason, hearing that Jennifer’s moved on with her life and is engaged almost brings tears to my eyes. I don’t even know anything about her except that she was on Friends, but it just feels like order has been restored in the universe, ya know?
