Coming to Cornell this semester as a transfer student, I was really excited about getting involved in different groups. Since you already know how great Slope Media is, I thought I’d shed some light on another really cool student organization on campus—CHC. CHC, Collegiate Hospitality Consulting, is a student-run business that offers clients consulting advice at a reduced price compared to professional consulting firms.
This undergraduate student-run business, composed of 18 Cornell undergrads, has been active on campus for over six years now and has grown tremendously this past year. The newly elected Managing Director, Richard Levins, noted his excitement about leading CHC this coming year. “I’m really excited about this opportunity,” he said. “I know that my team of dedicated students will propel CHC to a new level.”
Open to all majors and people with an interest in consulting, CHC provides in-depth marketing analysis, research, feasibility studies and business plan analysis to private hospitality companies locally in Ithaca and abroad in Asia. They even work with big-name companies like Maxim Magazine, Inc; this broad set of clients provides the consultants with extremely engaging work. Depending on the needs of the client, projects can range widely in size and time commitment, taking as little as one month or as much as a whole semester.
Just this past Friday, March 4th, 2011, CHC presented to Maxim Magazine in New York City. Maxim is a well-known men’s magazine, founded in 1995 in the United Kingdom. Currently, they are based in New York, New York. The magazine features famous celebrities, ranging from singers to actresses and models. It is really cool that Cornell students were able to meet with such a successful and well-known company—and offer them consulting advice, too!
CHC will be recruiting next semester in the fall. No consulting experience is required, as CHC provides an intensive training process, involving case studies, project shadowing and presentations with the new employees.
