In their study, the scientists surveyed 665 individuals over a period of eight months. From this group, the experts managed to identify narcissistic individuals and their distinct behaviors. The experiment was a resounding success!
According to these researchers, a narcissistic person develops a genuine obsession with social media. While it’s true that we all have some level of attachment to our phones, for these individuals, the addiction is on an entirely different scale! The scientists also identified six types of narcissism.
Although narcissistic individuals have various ways of seeking attention, nearly all of them are dependent on social media. Another expert states that receiving a “like” triggers dopamine in them. However, as time progresses, the brain may become exhausted, and they will struggle to feel happy!
Why Do They Have Such an Obsession?
In simple terms, a narcissistic person continuously shares photos and videos of themselves. According to scientists, they are “in love with an idealized and grandiose image of themselves.” Having more followers and likes allows them to feel envied.
They also add: “They are enamored with this inflated image of themselves precisely because it helps them avoid deep feelings of insecurity. However, sustaining their grandiose illusions requires a lot of effort, and this is where dysfunctional attitudes and behaviors come into play.”.
